Questions other Corona Del Mar homeowners have asked:

What do termite droppings look like

Drywood termite particles are tiny, oval-shaped pellets. They come in small capsules with concave sides and rounded edges. These pellets measure approximately 1 millimeter in size and can form small mounds below kick out holes. The mounds might look like small piles with salt or pepper.

    How to stop wood rot

For decks, make sure to use pressure-treated or decay-resistant lumber. Pressure-treated lumber that is rated for ground contact should never touch wood.
Stain or paint every side of any lumber piece that you use to build an exterior project using wood.
You should not lean on your siding with anything, including old plywood, tools, and ladders.
Regularly clean your gutters to avoid waterlogging and leaking onto siding or fascia.

    How to fix wood rot

To fix wood rot will depend on the severity of the damage. There is a point where it may be necessary to cut it out and have a professional fix the wood damage. It’s best to connect with a termite inspector not only to determine if it’s wood rot or termite damage but also it’s best to get a full termite inspection.

    Wood Rot and Termite Damage

The first step to termite mitigation is a first-class termite inspection. You might think that any termite inspector can do the termite inspection. On the contrary, when it comes to finding the termite colonies, an expert inspector who has done it for years has built-in experience of where the termite colonies live.

For your home in Corona Del Mar, when the wood is exposed to the elements such as rain, moisture, condensation, and termite infestations, and when you have the right amount of water and temperature, wood will start to rot and attract fungus spores. This is commonly found in eves areas where you have wood exposed from roof leaks or improper construction and sometimes widely found in wood siding areas that are shaded most of the time.
To find these areas, they need to be inspected by a trained professional to identify these types of conditions. Once the conditions have been determined, a report will be written with findings and recommendations to treat and correct identified needs.
To maintain your property from future wood rot/ fungus damage, you should have a yearly inspection by a professional /licensed inspector.
Here at Gentry Termite, we specialize in identifying wood-destroying organisms and pests.

Typically a home should be tented around every 7-10 years, depending on various scenarios especially on the quality of the local treatments. Best Corona Del Mar Termite Treatment

The best termite treatment by far is tent fumigation.  However, there are many other treatment options that have been used for years and are effective for termite removal.

What treatment option are out there:

Let’s start off by dividing treatment into three parts:  Organic treatment, liquid pesticide and fumigant gaseous treatment.  Organic treatment, i.e., orange oil treatment, is safe and you can continue to live in the home while the home is treated.  (Learn more about Orange Oil Treatment and its pros and cons).  Please read.

With respect to other liquid pesticide treatments, for example, Termidor SC is very effective against dry wood, subterranean, and Formosan termites.  The termites eat the treated wood, and pass the poisons throughout the colonies and kills them. Super effective.

The last is a fumigation tent.  If you are looking to buy a home, its essential to have a full tenting if it hasn’t been done in the last 5-7 years!  Based on our experience.  Of course, tent fumigation is the most reliable but you will have to vacate your home for 3 days.  The good news is that the gaseous fumigant does not leave a residue.

Corona Del Mar Termite control and prevention

Like going the the dentist, once you have all your cavities, etc., determined and fixed, you will want to have a yearly cleaning.  With respect to your home, it’s essential to have a base knowledge of your termite situation and simply receive a yearly inspection and preventative program.  Once again, a quality inspector is ideal.  Meet the Gentry Termite team.

    Orange Oil

Orange Oil Versus Tent Fumigation. What is best?

Orange oil treatment for termites, an eco-friendly option, uses d-limonene to kill drywood termites on contact. It's safe for pets and humans and is often applied directly to infested wood. Effective for localized infestations.

Now, it may not completely eliminate larger, widespread colonies. On the other hand, tent fumigation treats vast infestations by releasing a gas that permeates the entire structure, exterminating all termites. Both methods have their uses; choose based on your infestation's size and preference for natural or chemical treatments. Learn more below:
